JAVA Programmer/DEVELOPER

The Department of Veterans' Affairs requires the services of several experienced JAVA Programmer/Developers who will be working on a major project looking at choice of maintainability of services for DVA clients.
Evaluation Criteria:
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
• Ability to work with minimal direction, while maintaining high productivity.
• Good communication skills, both written and oral.
• Good analytical skills, especially in diagnosing problems in unfamiliar systems.
• Capable of adapting fast to various tool-sets
• Attention to detail.
• Be able to work under pressure in a team environment.
Duties:
The duties of the role are:
• Project work to enhance a large number of client-facing business application systems. These systems are critical to the delivery of our services to the Veteran community.
• Diagnosis, impact evaluation, correction and testing of reported faults and service needs.
• Ensuring documentation is maintained according to Quality requirements.
• May also be called upon to assist with technical design, coding, testing of system enhancements in a project-based environment
Expected Qualifications and Experience:
The expected qualifications and experience required for the role include:
• Highly developed problem solving, lateral thinking, responsiveness and an ability to consider implications.
• Previous experience in time critical software support or development.
Technical - Essential
• Sound knowledge and experience (Minimum 2 years) in a business application environment using:
• strong analytical and technical skills along with strong background of JAVA concepts.
• 3 years of experience in Analysis, Design, Development and Testing of Java/J2ee based systems in the field of Web application development & Portal development.
• exposure working with Portlets on the Portal Environments.
• expertise in Front-End development using tools such as Velocity, JSP, STL, Struts Tiles, HTML, DTML, CSS, JavaScript
• Experience with using a source control system.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications
