freelance Enterprise Architect - infrastructure

at Govt client in canberra

Primary Roles:
(mandatory or highly desirable work criteria)

As a member of the ICT Senior Management Group, the Enterprise Architect will
1. Deliver an ICT Enterprise Architecture strategy to provide direction in the implementation of ICT systems.
2. Provide input and direction into the IT decision making process to ensure the impact on the entire organisation is fully considered, by:
• Advising on investments in technology and appropriate acquisition strategies.
• Optimisation of information management approaches through an understanding of evolving business needs and technology capabilities.
3. Establish strategic business partnerships within the organisation and provide input into the development of an ICT strategic roadmap which meets these needs. Provide direction to work areas on how they can utilise IT to meet business goals.
4. Collaboratively generating the highest level of system requirements, based on the business needs and other constraints such as cost and schedule, by:
• Recommend future system technologies which will help in the improvement of business.
• Work with solutions architect(s) to provide a consensus based enterprise solution that is scalable, adaptable and in synchronisation with ever changing business needs.
• Liaise with departmental and external agency clients on architecture matters.
5. Encourage the re-use of existing investments in technology where possible, by:
• Identifying common business processes throughout the organisation so that the services IT creates can be reused.
• Promotion of shared infrastructure and applications to reduce costs and improve information flows. Ensure that projects do not duplicate functionality or diverge from each other and business and IT strategies.
6. Capable of direct and indirect involvement in the development of policies, standards and guidelines that direct the selection, development, implementation and use of Information Technology within the enterprise. Assist with the development and maintenance of the ICT strategic plan in line with departmental objectives.
7. Transfer skills, provide documentation and exchange information on all relevant work.
8. Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of hardware, software, application, and systems engineering.
9. Ability to explain complex technical issues in a way that non-technical people may understand.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken.


Secondary Roles:
(desirable work criteria) Show knowledge of IT governance and operations with demonstrated skills in:
• Project and Program management planning.
• Manage the priority, analysis and completion of tasks according to the nature and urgency of the request.
• Financial modelling as it pertains to IT investment
• Participate fully in the Prince project management process as required.


Qualifications: (formal)
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in IT, Computer Science or related discipline.
• At least 4-6 years work experience in infrastructure consulting roles.
• Preferred Microsoft certification or demonstrated experience.
• Preferred ITIL and PRINCE2 certification or demonstrated experience.


Skills Required: (technical/business/product skills)
• Proven record of providing system architectural leadership
• Demonstrated strong presentation and communication skills
• Ability to communicate complex technical issues in a simple way which can be understood by non-technical personnel
• Strong client service skills
