Role Description
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) seeks the services of an experienced Desktop
Support Officer.
The AFP utilises a complex and high performance network that provides reliability,
mobility and ease of use. The AFPs desktop environment consists of Windows XP,
Windows 2003 Server & Active Directory, office tools including MS Office 2003 and
Exchange, and other similar products.
Desktop Support have teams in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth & Sydney that provide 2nd level support for the LAN and other infrastructure, as well as
giving advice on all general IT issues. The team also provides rapid operational
support response domestically and internationally.
The Team Member contributes to the achievement of team outcomes in accordance
with the regulatory framework, AFP values, and the AFP Governance Framework as
an individual or as part of a team.

Principal Responsibilities
• install, configure, and maintain AFPNet equipment and software;
• provide 2nd level support by way of liaison and resolution of incidents;
• research and testing of IT solutions suitable for AFPNet;
• provide input to team proposals which support business area outcomes;
• establish and maintain networks and working relationships with
internal/external clients/stakeholders;
• record and maintain information in accordance with AFP requirements.

Experience
• minimum 2 years experience in an IT environment, familiarity with PC’s and
knowledge of LAN/WAN and use of various desktop and corporate
• applications with a particular emphasis in a multi-site Windows 2003, Active
Directory, Citrix and Exchange environment;
• demonstrated sound technical skills in data communications, networking
technologies, installation, maintenance and configuration of hardware and
• software; and
• excellent customer service skills.

Selection Criteria

TO BE ELIGIBLE, CANDIDATES MUST ADDRESS THE SELECTION CRITERIA
OUTLINED BELOW CITING RELEVANT EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY
AND OUTCOMES:
• organise work, make sound decisions, achieve outcomes and work with
minimal supervision;
• communicate and work efficiently with other people; and
• apply technical knowledge, expertise and skills to achieve desired outcomes.

ALL APPLICANTS MUST HAVE AUSTRALIAN CITIZENSHIP
(note – permanent residency status will not satisfy this citizenship requirement).

Term of Agreement: Initial (3) Three Month Agreement. Extension of the Agreement
after the initial period is dependent on a satisfactory performance assessment and
ongoing business requirements

Mandatory Drug Testing: Successful applicants will be required to undertake a test
for illicit drugs in accordance with the AFP Illicit Drug Free Work Force Policy.

Security Level Required: Secret – Candidates should be aware that the security
clearance process can take some time to complete. To assist in the timely
completion of the security clearance process, it is highly desirable that potential
candidates currently hold or have previously held a Commonwealth Government
Security Classification or have maintained Australian Residency for the past 10
years.

Salary Range AUD 30 to 34 per Hour
